Sci-Fi/Action 35MM Film Festival

to Apr 11

Sci-Fi/Action 35MM Film Festival

We are looking forward to celebrating spring this April with an exciting 35MM Sci-Fi/Action/Adventure packed lineup, that are sure to bloom and blossom in your imagination!

Friday, April 10th - 7pm - Doors at 6pm - (Action Fest)

We ease into things on Friday night with a special 35mm screening of the 1987 cult classic Masters Of The Universe. Considered a failure upon its initial release, it has since grown a significant cult following over time. The first live action He-man movie retains a legacy today as they are preparing to release a reboot this year. A perfect time to revisit the original.  This will be followed by a rare, secret 35mm film that is so secret, even we don't know what it is! Nor will we until April 10th! How exciting!

___

Saturday is our marathon session!

Saturday, April 11th - 11am - 3:30pm - (Day Pass)

Kicking things off we have a short 35mm Looney Tunes cartoon reel, to be followed by 3 classic Godzilla movies in a row, all on 35MM! Always popular, never out of vogue, Godzilla is also enjoying another resurgence with the recent Godzilla: Minus One and upcoming Minus Zero films. That should stoke your interest in seeing how Godzilla used to kick butt, back in the day!

We will also have Mike Ross available - Godzilla enthusiastic/expert who will be thrilled to tell you more about the individual films!

___

Saturday, April 11th - 6pm to 9:30pm - (Night Pass)

Saturday night things really start to get far out! A beautiful looking 35mm print of Jason And The Argonauts (1963) will take us on a faraway journey where we meet fantastic creatures and epic battles. This was a groundbreaking film when it came out, and it is still very exciting and impressive today. Do not miss this opportunity!

Project Moonbase will take us back to 1953 for a sci-fi space adventure, written by the well-known author Robert Heinlein. This one has a slightly feminist edge for its time, showing women in positions of power and authority.

Closing out the night with one of the most respected and revered sci-fi movies ever made, The Day The Earth Stood Still is an undeniable masterpiece! Directed by the maestro Robert Wise in 1951, this film ponders a scenario where aliens come to Earth in peace and wisdom, and how humans react to this. It shows the range and depth of our national paranoia that was in full swing during this Cold War era and questions our ability to live in peace as a race. Strong, impactful stuff!

___

Each block of 35mm films is priced separately, so feel free to pick and choose. The Grand Pass for the whole weekend is an incredible bargain, only $45 presale, $50 at the door. Huge savings! $$

SASFEST 2026 - A Festival to Showcase Syracuse Independent Films

Interested in locally written and produced Syracuse films? Join the Syracuse Actors Studio for its own version of the Sundance Festival.

Join the Syracuse Actors Studio on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, 12 PM-8 PM, for the First Annual SASFest! Think Sundance Festival, but here in Syracuse, as a local film festival for and by Syracuse Actors Studio (SAS) members to showcase their own independent films. We are proud and excited to show our work to the local community, encourage filmmakers to work with us, and encourage our members to make their own films.

We will publish a complete program soon, but we are currently screening several exciting films, including American Claudius, It’s Me Again, Amariah, and more! There will be question-and-answer opportunities after each film with the creatives involved.

SAS prides itself on offering free and open events to the public. Friends, family, and the general public are encouraged to attend. Still, we are encouraging people to donate in advance or at the door to support our organization and our generous partner, The Palace Theater, for this creative local festival. We hope to raise money to help them keep the theatre going for local filmmakers and incredible shows, and to support SAS so we can keep hosting outstanding programs open to all.

The Palace Theater will have a full bar and concessions with snacks, candy, and popcorn. Please enjoy responsibly, and help us support them by being gracious hosts. We are also looking to partner with food trucks so everyone can stay the whole day and enjoy!

We seek financial support from individual or corporate sponsors for our event, to help sustain these two great beacons of art in our community: The Palace Theater & Syracuse Actors Studio! Please contact Laura Stisser at lastisser@gmail.com or Tracy Chamberlain Higginbotham at womenties33@gmail.com if you would like to sponsor SASFest. As a sponsor, you and your company/organization will receive numerous promotional benefits.

We are also looking for volunteers to serve as door people, ushers, and to help sell merchandise. Please contact Laura Stisser at lastisser@gmail.com if you are or Laura Stisser at lastisser@gmail.com interested in volunteering.

Get excited now! You don't have to go to Colorado to see excellent indie films at a festival; SASFest 2026 is in your own backyard.

Slightly under the radar when initially released in theaters in 1988, this unconventional "Christmas" movie is now considered to have singlehandedly revitalized the action movie genre, and made an absolute superstar out of Bruce Willis.

Come see it the way it was meant to be seen, and just in time for the Holidays!"
