DOUBLE FEATURE - Dibernardo Productions Presents: EXscaped & UnRaveled: The Prelude to EXscaped

EXscaped 1 Hr 42 Min Runtime

Veronica is being held responsible for an incident that occurred in her small town, but it's worth questioning whether she's solely to blame for what happened in her twenties, which sent her over the edge. She suffers from PTSD along with dissociative amnesia which causes severe memory blocks without medication. For years she sought out counseling with Therapist Speaks but always found herself in toxic situations. Despite taking her medication for years, having a successful career and being newly engaged, Veronica runs into trouble with the law after something triggers her to start drinking again. But why when they should have been celebrating. Her fiancé is not the man she fell in love with as she finds out at his job after trying to surprise him after a fight. Veronica ends up at Left Behind Mental Asylum where she is mistreated while being taunted by Nurse Assistant Moore. Nurse Assistant Moore seems to have a sick obsession with Veronica and makes her noticeably uncomfortable. Not surprising as this, Mental Asylum should have been shut down 20 years ago.

She has been able to avoid taking responsibility in many situations by escaping. Although she returns home after being called back by Kelly and the help of an old childhood friend, Billy who was driving by to bring her there. Struggling to stay out of trouble in her small town, where everyone sees her as Crazy V from her traumatic situation from years prior still taunts her. Being off her meds has never been good for Veronica and her binge drinking was no help as she can not mix her meds with alcohol.

Veronica finds herself on the run until she mistakenly lands at the wrong house, where she can't seem to escape. A man DJ leads her to believe they are engaged and nurtures her back to health after finding her on his dock one morning. She realizes that she's being held against her will by being sedated and is made to believe that she belongs there but something is warning her to get away from the house.

Unraveled: The Prelude to EXscaped -  1 Hr 0X Min Runtime

Emerging from a childhood marked by domestic violence, abandonment, and trauma, Veronica endures amnesia and psychiatric care before facing her greatest test yet — caring for her ailing mother — while finding her voice and healing through the power of filmmaking.

Veronica's story is one of resilience, perseverance, and hard-won hope. From a young age, she witnessed domestic violence at home, and when her father abandoned the family, she became the caretaker for her younger sister Kelly, both of them carrying wounds they were too young to name. With their mother chronically ill, Veronica was robbed of a childhood.

The challenges followed her into adulthood. After a traumatic event at her first college party, Veronica was diagnosed with dissociative amnesia — her mind's way of protecting her from memories too painful to hold. Rather than surrender, she sought help, eventually spending time at Left Behind, a psychiatric facility where she worked alongside therapists and counselors to confront her past and begin reclaiming herself. Through that process, her mother — despite her own illness — remained a steadfast source of support.

Slowly, Veronica rebuilt. She pursued filmmaking, channeling her experiences into work that gave voice to others who had suffered in silence. Her platform became a place of advocacy, shining a light on mental health and the courage it takes to ask for help. She continued her own treatment, never pretending the journey was finished.

Veronica's story refuses to let the past have the final word. It is a testament to the strength of the human spirit — proof that even after the darkest chapters, there is still the possibility of authoring something beautiful.

VAMP FEST: Screening this specific lineup of vampire films (all on 35mm film prints) offers a fascinating journey through the evolution of cinematic horror, romance, and style across three distinct decades. Your marathon kicks off with two masterpieces from 1987 that approach the mythos from polar opposite directions. Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys captures the ultimate peak of 1980s MTV pop-culture, blending a neon-drenched, synth-heavy California aesthetic with a rebellious, rock-and-roll vampire gang. In stark contrast, Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark strips away all the glamorous Hollywood glitter, instead reimagining the vampire coven as a gritty, nomadic family of outlaws drifting across the sun-baked American Midwest in a dust-covered, neo-Western nightmare. Together, these two classics perfectly illustrate how the exact same monster can be used to tell completely different stories about youth, family, and alienation.

Moving forward into the next eras, your screening highlights how the genre transitioned into high-octane action and sweeping romantic melodrama. Stephen Norrington’s Blade (1998) redefines the creature feature for the turn of the millennium, infusing the mythos with industrial techno beats, leather trench coats, and slick, martial-arts-heavy superhero action that paved the way for modern comic book cinema. Finally, Chris Weitz's The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) shifts the focus entirely to a melancholic, blue-tinted world of young-adult fantasy, exploring the deep emotional agony of heartbreak, ancient vampire royalty, and the introduction of rival shape-shifters. Watching all four movies back-to-back will give your audience a thrilling look at how vampires transformed from terrifying leather-clad punks and highway killers into leather-clad superhero hunters and sparkling symbols of eternal romance.

SWORD FEST: SWORD Fest erupts onto the screen with a double feature of epic high-fantasy violence, strictly preserved in its ultimate visual format: authentic 35mm film prints. The marathon delivers a glorious clash of cinematic tones, bridging the gap between high-art mythmaking and unapologetic B-movie spectacle. The celluloid presentation brings a tangible, organic warmth to the experience, mimicking the exact grain structure and flicker that audiences fell in love with during the golden age of 1980s fantasy. Experiencing these towering tales of broadswords and black magic projected from physical film strips elevates the event into a time-capsule celebration of practical filmmaking, complete with whirring projectors, rich color saturation, and deep shadows that digital formats simply cannot replicate.

The lineup charges forward with John Boorman's Excalibur (1981), an operatic, visually intoxicating masterpiece that stands as one of the definitive retelling of the Arthurian legends. Boorman uses glowing neon-green armor, fog-drenched landscapes, and a booming classical soundtrack to craft an intense, dreamlike atmosphere that feels deeply ancient and mythical. This high-brow epic pairs perfectly with Albert Pyun's cult favorite The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982), a wildly entertaining, high-octane adventure packed with triple-bladed firing swords, snake demons, and relentless execution-style fight choreography. Together on 35mm, these two classics capture the absolute pinnacle of early-80s fantasy cinema, transporting your audience straight into an unforgettable realm of blood, steel, and sorcery.

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928, Carl Dreyer) Silent Film Screening with LIVE original score composed & performed by Beautiful Losers and Friends

Spiritual rapture and institutional hypocrisy come to stark, vivid life in one of the most transcendent masterpieces of the silent era. Chronicling the trial of Joan of Arc in the hours leading up to her execution, Danish master Carl Theodor Dreyer depicts her torment with startling immediacy, employing an array of techniques—expressionistic lighting, interconnected sets, painfully intimate close-ups—to immerse viewers in her subjective experience. Anchoring Dreyer’s audacious formal experimentation is a legendary performance by Renée Falconetti, whose haunted face channels both the agony and the ecstasy of martyrdom.

This screening will be accompanied by an original score performed live alongside the movie. Though the film was never intended to be played with music, several scores have been composed over the years. Led by BEAUTIFUL LOSERS, a collective of Syracuse musicians have developed a score that will reflect the poignance of the movie’s themes through the eyes of today.

The Shaw Bros. Chuck Norris 35mm Film Festival brings a high-octane celebration of martial arts history to the big screen, seamlessly fusing legendary Eastern choreography with gritty Western action. The marathon kicks off with two masterclasses in ensemble kung fu from the iconic Shaw Brothers studio: Shogun Assasn and Ten Tigers of Kwangtung. Projected in glorious, grainy 35mm, these martial arts epics showcase the studio’s trademark intricate weapon play, vibrant color palettes, and tales of righteous rebellion against oppression. Watching these classics on celluloid allows audiences to appreciate the physical genius of Chang Cheh’s choreography and the rich, cinematic textures that defined the golden age of Hong Kong cinema.

The energy shifts from the temples of China to the explosive arena of American cult cinema as the festival spotlights martial arts legend Chuck Norris. Audiences will experience the raw, analog intensity of Missing in Action 2: The Beginning, a prequel that delivers relentless explosions and survivalist action, followed by the ninja-infused conspiracy thriller The Octagon. The 35mm format perfectly elevates the nostalgic charm of these 1980s action staples, emphasizing the practical stunts, dark shadows, and gritty atmosphere that modern digital formats often smooth away. Together, this eclectic quadruple feature bridges the gap between classic Eastern discipline and explosive Western bravado, offering celluoid purists an unforgettable night of fist-flying, retro spectacle.

35MM Night Fest - Featuring Jaws and The Deep on 35mm Film

This fall, audiences have a rare chance to experience a double feature of maritime terror, Jaws and The Deep, screened on gritty, original, faded 35mm film prints.

Watching these classics on vintage celluloid restores the authentic, raw atmosphere of 1970s cinema, where every scratch and color shift tells a story of survival

. The faded tones and organic grain enhance the sun-bleached tension of the open ocean, making the open water feel more unpredictable and dangerous than modern digital restorations ever could. It is a nostalgic trip back to the golden era of suspense, evoking the exact feeling of walking into a dark theater decades ago.

The highlight of the event is Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece, Jaws, which will be presented with its original, unaltered stereo soundtrack. Hearing John Williams’ iconic, menacing score and the chaotic panic of Amity Island in its native audio format provides a powerful sonic depth that perfectly complements the weathered visual print. Paired with Peter Yates’ underwater thriller The Deep, this cinematic event doubles down on deep-sea dread and retro charm. For cinephiles and thrill-seekers alike, this screening offers a sensory time capsule that honors the textured, visceral way these blockbusters were truly meant to be experienced.

A New Dimension of Dance: The Nutcracker Reimagined

The Nutcracker: Symphony of Lights is not a traditional revival; it is a total evolution of the theatrical experience. By merging the peak of human athleticism with cutting-edge wearable light technology, this production transforms the stage into a living digital ecosystem.

Tchaikovsky’s famous score opens the door to a completely reimagined world: glowing costumes and world-class performers transform the classic tale into a captivating visual journey.

This is more than a performance — it’s a full immersion into a story of wonder and transformation, told through light, movement, and sound.

Each scene emerges like a living work of art, where holiday tradition meets bold contemporary design.

Discover The Nutcracker in a new light — a legend reborn with dazzling spectacle and emotional depth.

The core innovation lies in the power of luminescent storytelling. Rather than being illuminated by external spotlights, the characters provide their own light, turning the dancers into the primary architects of the visual space.

In a quiet village nestled in the Italian countryside, a celebrated Los Angeles chef begins again, not to escape his past, but to taste life again.

Bill Disselhorst and his wife Anne built Fiore Market Café into a beloved institution in Los Angeles, known for its tight-knit community and iconic fresh bread. Just as it was named one of Yelp’s Top 100 Restaurants in America, the café was sold.

Years later, Bill returns to Casperia, the medieval Italian town where their love of food first took root. There, he embraces a slower rhythm: hand-kneading dough, sharing meals with neighbors, and rediscovering the quiet bonds that remain when everything else falls away.

Told through intimate vérité, poetic interludes, and textured portraits of Casperia’s residents, Italian Wannabe is a lyrical meditation on human connection, the search for belonging, and the quiet rituals of a really good meal.
